NT Respite Care Plus came to be thanks to a passionate belief by our founders that services dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with special needs were lacking in the Katherine Region. We wanted to offer support for individuals with special needs, and the families and carers who look after them, helping wherever possible to make life a bit easier and brighter for our clients.
NT Respite Care Plus was founded on a dream of ensuring supports and services to all clients, parents, carers in the Katherine region.
Sander Klarenbeek and Lynn Rebeiro previously cared for a young man who had muscular dystrophy. Having full time jobs as well as looking after this young man full time meant there was hardly any time for a personal life. The lack of services in Katherine at that time meant, they had to go for months without respite. However they persisted and pushed themselves to ensure the young man had the best life possible. Sadly, the young man passed away a few years ago leaving a void in their lives.
Sander and Lynn understand what every parent / carer for a person with disability goes through. Continuous medical appointments, sleepless nights, 24/7 care, dietary requirements – all of these take a toll on a parents / carer’s personal life. Finding the support and space in a small town at times can be very challenging, as well as finding a safe and secure service for a person with a disability. NT Respite Care Plus aims to fill this gap, that is to provide the best possible service for a person with disability at the same time ensuring the parents / carers get a well deserved break to recharge their batteries.
